Education for Liberation Curriculum Fair set for April

Teacher Action Group, or TAG, will be hosting its third annual Education for Liberation Curriculum Fair and Citywide Summit on Saturday, April 28. The theme for this year's event is "Our Schools, Our Solutions."

Organizers say the all-day event seeks to give educators a chance to develop best practices and strategies for improving and reforming their schools from within, at a time when School District leaders say they are looking to shift away from a top-down management style.

According to co-coordinator Larissa Pahomov, a fourth-year teacher at Science Leadership Academy, "It's time for educators to look to ourselves to make the changes we want to see."

Kicking off at 9:30 a.m., morning sessions will include curriculum table exhibits, unit and lesson plans, and workshops on topics relating to education and social justice.

The afternoon session will address the theme of "transforming from below" and feature local experts who have experience moving their schools toward improved curriculum and climate. According to TAG's event description, these presenters will then lead breakout sessions to help educators "create your own strategy for improving your school community."

The TAG event is co-sponsored by the local coalition OneVoice Philadelphia and will feature a performance by the Philadelphia Student Union's Original Soundtrack Team.

The event is at Folk Arts and Cultural Treasures School, 1023 Callowhill St. Registration is free, and lunch will be provided. Visit to register.
