Curriculum Fair and Education Summit taking place this Saturday

and the Campaign for Nonviolent Schools will hold the 4th annual Education for Liberation Curriculum Fair and Citywide Summit on Saturday, May 4, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Folks Arts and Cultural Treasures charter school.

The theme for this year’s curriculum fair and summit is “Flipping the Script in Philadelphia.”

The curriculum fair will be held in the morning and will feature workshops, unit and lesson plans, projects, resources, and best practices for social justice education. This will be a space for educators and students to connect and exchange, learn from each other, and take new ideas back to their classrooms.

The summit, held in the afternoon, will be a space for parents, students, community members, and educators to build stronger community alliances for education justice. Activists and advocates who are now working to save and transform their schools will participate in a panel discussion. A series of workshops will also be held for conference-goers to figure out how to take the lessons back to their school communities.

So if you feel like your community is being uprooted or destroyed, like teachers are constantly being asked to do more with less, or like education in Philadelphia is not the priority of District leadership, then come join TAG and Campaign for Nonviolent Schools as they discuss how to flip the script. You can also follow the event on Twitter using the hash tags  #flippingthescript, #tagphilly, #phillyeducation and #underattack.

Samuel Reed III, a teacher consultant with the Philadelphia Writing Project, is an active member of the Teacher Action Group (TAG Philly) and has been teaching middle school literacy for 15 years.

Anissa Weinraub, a founding core member of TAG, also contributed to this piece.
