For the first time in its nine-year history, the Lindback Award for Distinguished Public Teachers was awarded to teachers of all grade levels, with 60 elementary, middle, and high school teachers honored last night at the Prince Theater.

“These award-winning teachers go above and beyond to support students both inside and outside the classroom,” said Superintendent William Hite in a statement. “Their leadership, commitment and persistence make them distinguished educators who have gained the respect of their school communities.”

The annual award was created by the Christian and Mary Lindback foundation in 2008. Teachers receive a $3,500 stipend.

The teachers were honored by speakers that included Hite; Otis Hackney, Chief Education Officer of Philadelphia; Joyce Wilkerson, Chair of the School Reform Commission; and David Loder, a Lindback Foundation trustee.

“We are thankful for their dedication and congratulate them all on their achievements,” Hite said.
