Welcome to our redesigned site

We just launched our new site! Please take a moment to look around, this site has several new features. Most notably, the Notebook has expanded to another medium: blogging.

And we need your help with naming our blog.

Please comment on this post with suggestions or email us. Right now you can read posts from Len Rieser, Alesha Jackson, Debbie Wei, Helen Gym, Dale Mezzacappa, and Eric Braxton, and you'll continue to see updates from bloggers with a variety of perspectives on education in Philadelphia.

Now, we have pages targeted at different reader groups: for parents, for teachers, and for students. You can also share our articles with social sharing sites like Digg and Reddit.

Our archives are all still available. We're working on moving all of the content to this new site and now we have all of our work for the past two years here. As we move the content over you'll be able to search for it and sort through it in new ways.

Feel free to register as a user of our site. As a user of our site you'll be able to keep track of your comments, access any user-only content, and join a community of active thenotebook.org readers!

Leave us a comment or email us with any questions or feedback. We will continue to add features to the site over the next few months and welcome your input.

Naming the blog: how about something along the lines of "School Matters" - though that may already be taken or perhaps the pun is too overwrought. :-)

Congrats on the new blog! Ideas for names? Hmm ...

1) You could keep it The Notebook but with a laptop logo
2) Phil. Public School Sticky Notes - like each little post is like a sticky note rather than one big notebook. Cute logo ideas ...

I'll keep thinking.

I really like Julie's ideas -- both The Notebook with a laptop logo and the Student Sticky Notes idea. Maybe the paper could be called The Notebook II: The Laptop Edition (perhaps the logo could be a laptop with The Notebook II written across the screen). That's the first thing that I thought of when visualizing her idea. Good luck whatever you decide.

Why are there no blogs by Philly teachers currently in the classrooms? Who knows better what is going on or how the administration/SRC policies will affect students? I find it strange that you seem to have everything BUT a teacher to blog for you.

Fair question.

We're working on it. Our blog is definitely a work in progress. We don't by any means have all our bases covered with our initial team of bloggers. For instance, we're also working on ways of getting student voices on our blog. We'd welcome suggestions.

You may have noticed that while blogs now number in the millions, there aren't a lot of teachers blogging about teaching in Philadelphia. Not only are most teachers crazy busy, a lot of Philly teachers are just not comfortable with putting themselves out there in this way. You'll find one local teacher blog listed on our local blog roll. If there are others you think we should be linking to, let us know. And encourage teachers to post comments on our blog - while it's great when folks identify themselves, this is something they can do anonymously if they so choose.

One of our regular bloggers, Alesha Jackson, is dedicating her blog to seeking out local teacher voices ... she'll have a new and interesting post out this week. She's one of three bloggers on our team who got into education as teachers. So we hope over time you'll find strong and varied teacher perspectives on our blog. And you all can help us make that happen.

How about naming the Notebook blog..."Pravda?"
