Mapping District facilities

by Erika Owens on Mar 02 2011

Click here for a larger version of the map.

In partnership with PlanPhilly, the Notebook has created a map of School District of Philadelphia facilities.

The map includes details about schools and other properties the District leases or owns like pools, annexes, and administrative offices.

We're working on additional ways to help you access and digest data and other District info, so please let us know if you have suggestions on how to improve the map or other data we could map or add to this map. Also, please leave a comment or email us if you find any errors on the map. Thanks for your help in improving the map.

Brian James Kirk of PlanPhilly and Celeste Lavin with the Notebook helped create this map.

Some prior maps the Notebook has developed include maps of Renaissance Schools and a map of District and charter schools as of 2009.

Let us know what you think! Does anything jump out at you now that you see these points laid out on the map?

UPDATE: The District released the updated data on April 8 and the Notebook is working to incoporate it into the map.

Great work. This is exactly the type of data communities need going into the Facilities Master Plan process. Has the district shared FCI numbers yet?, as that data would be the final piece of the puzzle on closures/grade reconfiguring/catchment changes.

Despite repeated requests, the District still has not released the facilities condition index (FCI) data or the updated capacity and utilization figures developed by URS Corporation. So we actually still do not have the two key pieces of the puzzle for determining which schools are most likely to be closed.

Amazing resource! Thank you.
