Join us tonight at a happy hour

by Erika Owens on Feb 08 2012

Please help us celebrate the release of our February edition from 4-6 p.m. tonight at Johnny Brenda's. The happy hour is co-sponsored by Young Friends of the Philadelphia Youth Network. PYN, through Project U-Turn, underwrote the Notebook's seventh edition on the dropout crisis.

This edition looks at the issue from the perspective of the Kensington neighborhood. The cover story follows one high school dropout from Kensington who is trying to find a job in a neighborhood where only 25 percent of dropouts age 20-24 are employed. Her story is told through a radio feature, photo slideshow, and accompanying data about workforce and education trends in that neighborhood.

The entire edition is available online and print copies will be available at the happy hour. Notebook members receive a copy of the paper in the mail, and a free drink and raffle ticket tonight!

At the happy hour Notebook staff, reporters, interns, members, volunteers, and readers will have a chance to chat about news from the edition and catch up. Other stories from this edition include:

Johnny Brenda's is a short walk from many of the places mentioned in this edition, so coming to the happy hour is also an opportunity to wander by the new Kensington CAPA or get a feel for life near the El.

We hope you can make it to the happy hour, and look forward to seeing you at more events and activities.
