Notebook blogger Helen Gym reflects on Mayor Nutter's comment that the debate about public vs. private schools is "esoteric."

But the editorial board, noting the concerns of people like PFT president Jerry Jordan and Helen Gym, wonders about the future of public schools if their survival depends on charitable contributions in lieu of government funding. While applauding the Philadelphia School Partnership, it also notes that it has yet to give a grant to a regular public school.
