Regard "Great Schools" bus tour - According to the Daily News the 20 parents visited 3 schools: Boys Latin Charter, a high school in West Philadelphia, Young Scholars Frederick Douglass in North Philadelphia and Penn Alexander Elementary in West Philadelphia, both K-8 schools.
Why is Boys Latin a "great school?" It must be more than its test scores and its cherry picking of students. (Just look at their application process and dismissal rate of students who "don't fit.") Penn Alexander is a joke to visit - even parents within the catchment can't get their children into the school. Young Scholars is another charter with very low reading scores.
I'd also like to know how "Great Schools" paid for the tour. Parents were given a lot of perks to participate.
