The School Reform Commission will be holding its first action meeting of the new year tonight. The SRC will be voting on adopting a strategic plan for career and technical education and the proposed nonrenewal of Community Academy's charter. Community, one of the city's first charter schools, has been a consistent poor performer, failing to make yearly progress benchmarks the last six years. The school has essentially been operating without a charter since June 2011.
With the regional meetings on school closings occuring at a steady pace this month -- two every week -- the heated topic of closings will likely surface during the public-comments portion of the meeting. There are 81 people signed up to speak tonight. The Inquirer's Kristen Graham warned attendees to "bring your pajamas."
The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. Watch it live above.
