School District takes Roosevelt Middle from closure list to salvation to expansion

Roosevelt Middle School in central Germantown will become a K-8 school at the end of this academic year, according to officials with the School District of Philadelphia.

The East Washington Lane school now serves students in the 6th through 8th grades.

District spokesperson Raven Hill said Monday that students from nearby Fulton Elementary, which will close this summer, and other yet-to-be-determined feeder schools will be able to enroll at Roosevelt.

The city's School Reform Commission voted to close Fulton, a recommendation that was part of the District's Facilities Master Plan. The SRC also voted to close Germantown High School, as recommended by the District.

No, the District didn't heed community input. If it had, Germantown HS would be turning into a K-12 school and Roosevelt would be closing and re-purposed, as the District originally proposed. Education Grad Student
