Im a recent graduate of Swenson, it probably one of the best schools in the city of Philadelphia when it comes to safety. It's a small school and everyone knows each other and I'm not saying this in a bad way. Swenson gets thousands of applications a year but only select around 250 students. I loved the school, very diverse and friendly staff. Also, a large percentage of the staff know every student by the time they graduate. I never realized how much I missed high school until I actually graduated. Choose Swenson! Class of 2011!!!!

My daughter will be going to ninth grade soon so I am doing research on this school and Oh wow I have so many mixed feelings after reading all these comments.

Submitted by Anonymous on September 19, 2012 4:33 pm

Tell you right now, I'm going to be class of 2014. This school is not right for your daughter. If you want her to be dumb let her come. Everyone in this school knows its retarded, 3/4 the teachers are dumb as well, you wont learn anything unless you get the good 1/4 of teachers. Yes everyone is friendly but, on the flip side, expect her to cut classes. I'm a junior and I know for a fact, I have gotten dumber ever since I came here. The only thing keeping me here are my friends, fun times, and maybe my shop class, although I feel like switching.

Submitted by Anonymous on November 24, 2014 7:58 pm

oh wow

I'm class of 2014, knowing this school. Not a good choice.

Pros:
Shop classes is what she will learn basically in
1/4 of teachers really care and will teach her
Friendly environment (drama here and there)
Make friends and have good times

Cons:
3/4 Teachers are dumb
Smokers
You will learn to cut classes
Wont learn much
Food is bad
Everyone I know understands this school is dumb (preferably called retarded)
Biggest mistake I made (academic wise)

Swenson DOES NOT prepare you for the future. Im a student there and it's my senior year (class of 2013), started there in 2009 as a freshman. as much as I'd LOVE to say I love this school and it's taught me a lot, I'm not a liar. This school is FUN, that's it. and I had an enjoyable ass high school career because its so easy and worry-free, BECAUSE THERES NO REAL WORK. The math teachers I had were either lazy or flat out crazy. When I took my SAT's the math was a whole different language, I hadn't been taught a real lesson since I was in middle school. The english teachers are ok, depending on who your lucky to get. In my opinion, wish for the hard ones, because you either get hard teachers who give you work and teach or ones who pass out papers and show irrelevant movies the whole semester and passes you somehow. The shop classes are soooooo outdated. Most of the supplies and instruments we need are from the 90's. As much as they dont teach, most of the teachers and staff are really cool. You can talk to them about anything and they really help out with problems and understanding you as an individual, that's my favorite thing about them. its generally a really small school so you know everyone by your senior year. Literally everyone. Swenson is a good school to socialize and get away with things like cutting & smoking. but not to learn. about half the school is cutters, smokers, or obnoxious dorks. I honestly wish I had selected central or any of the other good schools that had accepted me, I'd probably have more knowledge. Now I'm going to CCP next fall to catch up on my math and other subjects because I know I'm not prepared for what a real university has in store for me. Oh, and the principal and vice- A**holes who make you feel like shit. they don't even care about the students, they just want the name of the school to look good. but take it from me, pick a different school and let this one crumble, I mean, there's a reason we haven't made AYP in what, 4 or 5 years? I was smarter with a brighter future before I came here and I have a huge resentment towards this school for that. I'm not a loser here or a badass. Im you're average Swenson student who took the time to write a real review that I can have way more than 3/4 of the students back me up in.

Im In 8th grade and one of my choices for High School Is Swenson, but from reading these comments Im not sure rather this is the right choice. Can somebody help me!!

Submitted by Anonymous on October 28, 2012 11:40 am
Don't listen to the rude comments up there, I actually do have to agree on what they said by half of the teachers and dumb asses and I COMPLETLY agree the only things I'm actually learning are both my sciences and English, the algebra teacher I have can't teach for nothing, so pray you'll get hooked up with the right teachers, the food is actually good and yeah there are smokers and cutters (trust me, I've seen them) but there are actually good qualities here too, Swenson is a small enviroment school so you'll meet tons of new people, that's all I have to say for now so good luck
