The pool is most definately not open. They never even tried to do the necessary repairs. There are lots of fantastic spaces in the school that are not utilized and maintained. Sorry, no literary magazine. Yearbooks came in late July because the staff responsible couldn't get their act together. They got rid of the Mandarin teacher because the principle said there were no Chinese students in the school so he didn't see the need for it. A very disorganized and incompetent Promise Academy with a weak principal, completely out of touch and uninvolved. Many of the assistant principals were clueless and as a reward were promoted to principalship to other schools. Some sit in empty or near empty classrooms collecting a paycheck grumbling about how great the school was 30 years ago. On average a teacher sees one or two parents on parent teacher conference days, so there are few parents who would even think about being involved in the children's education. A sad school for a sad neighborhood, where the students are ill prepared for the adult world. Definately not a quality education. Does anybody care?

Just from reading this, I guess no one cares.

The UCHS-MET Incorporated Mentor Program has operated at UCHS for over two years with a track record of Community Adult Volunteer recruitment, Mentor Training, government clearance processing approvals which has resulted in community partner MET Incorporated matching over 100 Volunteer Mentors with student/mentee.

In spite of program sustainability challenges, currect active mentee-mentor matches are 77 and growing with Community and UCHS Alumni Association partnerships sustained with academic, cultural and athletic weekday and Saturday Programs in place over the past nine (9) months.

This school sucks...Due to the fact how for all middle grade students like myself know, who would go to a school that's in the neighborhood type. I rather score for the special admission schools, so you know what. This school is off my list of high schools to go to! Or in other harsh words, SCREW THIS SCHOOL!

As a graduate of UCHS, I can tell you a few reasons to put this school on your list: In Philly, its much better to be a big fish in a small pond, really. There are lots of resources offered to students, and VERY FEW make use of them. It is much better to be one of the handful of students that your counselor or Principal thinks of than one of when opportunities arise than the unwashed herd in a larger school like Central, Girls High or SLA.

I dare you to find a class size smaller than 30 at Central or SLA. I bet the AP classes at UCHS are under 15. Many families pay for that kind of student-teacher ratio. Also, unfortunately, many students choose schools with HIGH failure/transfer rates; and then hope they aren't one of the students Dr. Pavel used to talk about in his 1st day speech to Freshmen (...look to your left, now look to your right, both of those students will not graduate from 12th grade at Central...). Those are not concerns at UCHS, or other neighborhood schools. Their focus is on helping you do your best, not failing you.

Every HS choice in Philly has tradeoffs. Even the elite schools. but don't take my word for it, TALK to the students at many schools. see what they say. Above all, remember, when you graduate, your transcripts will say "School District of Philadelphia", not Central, GHS, SLA, etc. A THAT point no one will care what HS you attended except you.

This whole city is a joke. Take a drive down 611 and you'll see what I mean. Keep voting for your favorite Democrats though, as the many decades of policies starting with Lyndon Johnson have left you here. And your current Savior in DC is only gonna make things worse. 2 + 2 people. Oh yeah, some of you can't do that. Sorry.
