Audenried High School

Photo: Harvey Finkle

A sprawling, new Audenried High School in Grays Ferry has opened to a class of 9th grade students. Alcorn, Arthur, and Edwin H. Vare are feeder schools for this neighborhood high school, closed since 2005, but now slated to grow to 800-1,000 students. It will be organized into academies of about 200 students each, with one for ninth-graders and four others that are career-oriented. The school has space for community use, including a media center, a fitness center, and two gyms.

Other building openings this fall include Barry Elementary in West Philadelphia and Rush CAPA, a high school in a renovated middle school building in Northeast Philadelphia.
