The players on the leadership team

Maria Pitre* – Chief Academic Officer: Moves here from East Baton Rouge Parish in Louisiana where she served as assistant superintendent for middle schools. She has worked for two decades in urban public education and is a Broad Superintendents Academy Fellow.

Tomas Hanna – Chief of School Operations: Returns to Philadelphia from his post as deputy superintendent of the Providence, R.I. school district. He had been a teacher and principal in Philadelphia and led the human resources department until 2007. 

Michael J. Masch – Chief Business Officer: Returns to Philadelphia from his role as state budget secretary for Pennsylvania. Masch is a former member of both the School Reform Commission and the Board of Education, and he served as budget director in Mayor Rendell’s administration.

Sherry A. Swirsky – General Counsel: Has been with the School District since 2006 when the School Reform Commission appointed her the general counsel for both the School District and the SRC.

Shawn Y. Crowder – Chief of Staff: Continues her work with the District after most recently heading the District’s human resources department.
