Highlights of Philadelphia teachers' contract
Cost: Approximately $192 million over three years for salary increases and benefits, not counting money for “value-added compensation” and additional pay for teachers in low-performing schools for extended day and year.
Salary and benefits: Members will get a 3 percent raise in September and another 3 percent raise in January 2012. Medical benefits were not curtailed. The District is moving towards self-insurance and will institute a health management program.
Site selection: Site selection will be mandatory at schools designated as “high needs.” The committees making teacher selection decisions will operate by consensus. The District says nearly 90 percent of vacancies will now be filled through site selection rather than seniority – all those at 58 schools that voted for it and at an overlapping group of 107 high-needs schools, as well as half the positions at other schools. The union said the number is likely to be lower in practice.
Value-added compensation: The District has budgeted $20 million – and will spend more if funding is available – to reward teachers and other staff members as a group at some schools, both high-needs and those already doing well, that make significant progress. The formula will be worked out by a joint committee. Plus, the annual bonus for teachers certified through the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards will increase to $7,500, and the District will develop a master’s degree in urban education with local universities and subsidize its tuition for teachers in low-performing schools.
Teacher support and evaluation: The contract establishes Peer Assistance and Review (PAR), a jointly developed evaluation system for all new teachers and others who are struggling. Consulting teachers will work with those enrolled in PAR and recommend evaluation ratings. All new teachers will also have school-based mentors. The program, drawn from Montgomery County, Md., and Toledo, Ohio, will start with 45 schools next year and by 2012-13 include the entire District.
Racial balance: The contract does away with a longstanding provision designed to maintain racially balanced faculties at all schools. Both parties said this stemmed from recent legal decisions and the settlement of the desegregation case brought by the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission in 1970.

Although I am not a expert on this field I believe that the key for getting a quality and professional teachers to teach our children (which in turn, propel our economy and the entire country) is to provide a good salary and conditions so that there would be competition. electric griddle
People need to want to be teachers because of the good salary and support they receive, so that the system will be able to sort only the best for this very important job. liddle griddle

It is the lack of support and respect for teachers that forces many good teachers out of Philadelphia. If they were into the money they wouldn't have applied here in the first place. The desire to teach is so often sabotaged by an administration that constatly put its own interests ahead of those of the students and teachers.

Im Alter von 15 bis 19 Jahre alten Mädchens Geburtenrate sank um 8% und die durchschnittliche Lebenserwartung pro 1.000 Kinder unter 39, auch in dieser Altersgruppe ist seit jeher gering eingestellt. Frauen im Alter von 25 bis 30 sank die Geburtenrate um 6% der Frauen im Alter von 30 bis 40-Schicht ist um 2% reduziert.
Der allgemeine Rückgang der Geburtenrate von ethnischen Frauen, aber der größte Rückgang in spanisch Geburtenrate sank um 9%. Im Gegensatz dazu nicht-hispanischen weißen Frauen um etwa 3% sank, ging nicht-hispanischen schwarze Frauen um 4%.
HCHs Studie zeigt, dass die zweite und dritte Kind Geburtenrate der fiel, bis zu 6%, ist das erste Kind um 3% gesenkt.

Well this is a motivating factor for teachers and this is the first step improving achievements in schools. This will surely bring good and a safe environment where students can learn and staff can work. This contract will surely bring qualified teachers into action because if there is safe future on this carrier then many people can adopt this field as their courier. The district thinks it’s about speeches and hardware, but it’s about people connecting with students in positive ways that makes a difference. Without adult guidance and supervision we aren’t going to have much impact on kids who are surrounded by a culture of cruelty and violence every day.
Every time the district cuts elective and extracurricular programs, school safety takes another hit. If kids are bored all day with scripted reading and math programs and denied any avenue to express their individual talents, interests and strengths, they are going to dislike school and act out which can bring negatives vi0bes on their studies. Reducing adult supervision, failing to have clear rules with consistently enforced consequences, will make schools less safe for students and staff next school year. We have to understand that students are organized around the issue of ending violence. The Campaign for Nonviolent Schools has marched in Philadelphia, lobbed in City Council and Harrisburg and testified before SRC to secure funding for public education under the banner “No Education, No Life”. Young adults in our community pay a heavy price for the violence that infects schools and communities.
There are several highly acclaimed programs which I have heard of, including peer mediation, chicasaw stewardship, conflict resolution and proven anti-buying programs. As with everything else, we to reach kids as early as possible and stay on message until positive behaviors become ingrained. Whatever we invest in ending school violence is worth it. Our entire community suffers because of violence, and we all benefit when we wipe it out.

The contract isn't horrible. This will help many teachers and season professionals in the area. I'm surprised that it's a bit low as compared to other contracts in the country.

It's about time Philadelphia teachers are given more benefits and better working options. Having well compensated teachers ensure that the students get the quality of teaching they deserve and need, especially those that plan to take up business courses which are known to have high standards when accepting student applications.
