Making moves in 2013

The Notebook kicked off 2013 by hiring its first full-time development director, Timothy Cravens, who brings with him 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector. He has worked at Hadassah in New York and in the planned giving office at American Friends Service Committee here in Philadelphia. He also served as the assistant to the executive director at the Peggy Browning Fund, where he was engaged in event planning and organizing.
A graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, Cravens also holds a master of divinity degree from Harvard. In his spare time he is co-pastor of a small independent Catholic church in Media, Pa.
“What energizes me about development work is the opportunity to help donors translate their passion into action,” Cravens says.
“Many parents, teachers, alumni, and other Philadelphia citizens are passionate about providing the best possible education to our children. By giving to the Notebook, they can turn that passion into a reality by helping the Notebook continue its outstanding work and reach even more people.”
While continuing to grow its staff, the Notebook is also planning a move this summer. Since its launch in 1994, the Notebook has been housed by Resources for Human Development as part of their New Beginnings nonprofit incubator. Having turned 18, the Notebook is ready to move out into its own offices.
An “On the Move” campaign aims to raise $25,000 to support the move and enable the organization to become an independent nonprofit. The move will allow the Notebook to lower its overhead and operate more efficiently.
