“First Person” documentary

“First Person,” a documentary about the struggles of six Philadelphia high school students to make it to college, won “Best Documentary” honors at the Philadelphia Film Festival in April. The film’s director, Notebook editorial board member Benjamin Herold, won the festival’s SCION award as the best new director. At a party after the premiere, Herold (right) stands with five of the students – (from left) Steven Parr, Mario “Macho” Amaro, Malikka Saeed, Shalisa Ousley, and Doug “Fresh” McLean – whose stories were told in the film.
