Brownstein named new head of Education Law Center

Rhonda Brownstein, a Philadelphia native and graduate of Northeast High, Penn State, and Temple Law School, has been appointed the new executive director of the Education Law Center. She succeeds Len Rieser, a Notebook board member.

Brownstein was a litigator and led the legal program at the Southern Poverty Law Center, where she expanded the staff from five to 25 attorneys and litigated landmark class action cases in five Southern states. Many of those cases, designed to have the biggest legal impact, involved the rights of public school students, immigrants, children in the criminal justice system, and other vulnerable populations.

Most recently, Brownstein has been a visiting assistant professor at the Sturm College of Law at the University of Denver in its clinical program.

She will take over her new position on June 4.
