Revised closing plans expected Tuesday

The School District will be releasing revised recommendations for school closings Tuesday morning, just two days before the School Reform Commission begins its three days of hearings on the plans.

Two weeks after that, on March 7, the SRC has scheduled a final vote on school closings.

No details are available on what changes to expect. Superintendent William Hite has emphasized that his initial December proposal to shutter or relocate 44 schools was not set in stone. He has praised the 38 alternative proposals that have been published on the District's website.

But Hite and members of the School Reform Commission have also said they will not accept critics' calls for a one-year moratorium on closings. And last week a spokesperson also dismissed proposals to exclude high schools from the closings list.

My money is on the Northwest elementary schools being saved. The North Philly schools - not so much. High schools - not at all. :-(

Sounds like the pols want to make Beeber a charter after all. It's in a prime location near City Ave. so suddenly, it's up for closure and the beat goes on. A month ago, it was going to house OEC and Gompers. For 4 years, the buzz was Beeber to be a charter and now, here it is, shocked just shocked!!!!
